MERRY MERMAIDS

MERRY MERMAIDS.
This is another example of a set being repurposed. Originally one half of a 1946 set titled Jaunty Juniors, the two dolls have been substantially redrawn while the clothes remain exactly the same.
This abbreviated set was sold as a souvenir at attractions which featured live "mermaid" shows in underwater theaters such as Weeki Wachee Springs in Florida or Aquarina Springs in Texas, where my sister picked up her copy while we were on family vacation in the mid 1960's. My mother though it was funny that the fashions were 20 years out of date but I don't think my sister cared.

GIANT SHIRLEY TEMPLE DOLL

GIANT SHIRLEY TEMPLE DOLL.
Starting off the week in a BIG way!
The original of this two piece doll was a whopping 34 inches tall. This reproduction measures about 21 inches. If you look closely for the tabs at the waist you will see how she fits together but some additional tape and card in back will probably be needed for rigidity.
This doll was never meant to stand on it's own but to hang on the wall with the little hanger provided.
Shirley is lovely as always and a nice addition to any paper doll collection.

MOVIE STARS OF THE 1930'S

MOVIE STARS OF THE 1930'S.
Here is an economical depression era set. As the four dolls all have the same body type the clothes will fit any one of them. Of these four only Claudette Colbert went on to major stardom after talking pictures became the norm. Anita Page and Sue Carol had been big stars in silent films but retired in the early 1930's. Clara Bow was the famous "IT" girl in the 20's but she too didn't survive the advent of sound in films. This set gives an interesting contemporary look at early 30's fashions as they transitioned from the 1920's into the 1930's.

SWEET ADELINE

SWEET ADELINE.
Sweet is the word to describe this 1940's cartoon style doll. The whimsical outfits are a perfect compliment to her childlike innocence.

JULIET JONES

JULIET JONES.
Juliet and her sister Eve were the main characters in a daily comic strip THE HEART OF JULIET JONES which ran from the early 1950's through the year 2000. Essentially a soap opera in the same vein as the even longer running MARY WORTH, the strip followed the love lives of the two sisters and so was ripe material for a paper doll set with some great 50's fashions.

FASHION SHOW PART TWO - HEIDI & NANNETTE.
Here is the rest of this four doll Fashion Show set from the 1960's. Very nicely drawn and the clothes even resemble fashion design sketches in a way. Tre's Chic!

FASHION SHOW PART ONE - CYNTHIA & AMY

FASHION SHOW PART ONE - CYNTHIA & AMY.
For budding little fans of 1960's haute couture the finely tailored fashions in this four doll set would have made for delightful play back in the day. There are even some wigs for change of hairstyle.
Tomorrow I will post the rest of the set.
