NATIONAL VELVET

NATIONAL VELVET.
No, not the 1944 film starring Elizabeth Taylor but the 1960 television series starring Lori Martin as Velvet Brown. There were a great many TV shows from the early 1960's which are largely forgotten today and this was one of them although it was a big hit at the time and got the paper doll merchandising treatment to go along with it.

DISNEY STARLETS - 1960

DISNEY STARLETS- 1960.
This is a strange little set, reimagining the Disney princesses as if they were starlets under contract to the studio rather than animated characters. Later sets would include Aurora from SLEEPING BEAUTY in the mix but here Annette Funicello (an actual person) has been added. This is no doubt due to her popularity at the time although here she is made to look like an animated character herself. Weird.

Compare this set with the posts for  MGM STARLETS - 1951 (Oct. 26, 2023) or  PARAMOUNT STARLETS (Dec. 23, 2023).

WOMEN'S AUXILIARY FERRYING SQUADRON 1942 - PART THREE

WOMEN'S AUXILIARY FERRYING SQUADRON 1942 - PART THREE.
Here as promised are Dolls 5 & 6 from this lovely 1942 set. I couldn't resist posting the original cover art as well with the rather demeaning title "Girl Pilots of the Ferry Command". Although derogatory this was probably a better title for selling the book back in the day and you must admit the color artwork is stunning.
More different and unusual paper dolls coming next week!

WOMEN'S AUXILIARY FERRYING SQUADRON 1942 - PART TWO

WOMEN'S AUXILIARY FERRYING SQUADRON 1942- PART TWO.
Here are dolls 3 & 4 from this 1942 set. Featuring some accurately detailed uniforms and marvelous early 1940's fashions. I've said before that I have a fondness for these military inspired paper doll sets,(see posts for May 26-29, 2025, Sept. 16-17, 2025 & Nov. 4-6, 2025) as they are something more than mere toys in light of their historical significance and as invaluable costume period reference.
I will post dolls 5 & 6 tomorrow.
