BLONDIE 1942

BLONDIE 1942.
The Blondie comic strip which began in the 1930's and is still running in newspapers today spawned a large number of paper doll sets, one in each decade in fact. This one from the 1940's is interesting for it's incorporation of topical items such as food rationing books and planting Victory gardens during World War II. The fashions are colorful and period appropriate as well.

I'll be posting more Blondie sets coming up this week!

PRESSED BOARD DOLLS - PART TWO

PRESSED BOARD DOLLS - PART TWO.
Here are the other two dolls from the Pressed Board set. They don't have as many outfits but some fun separates and hats. Over all this set has a very good look at 1940's fashion.

More unique and wonderful paper dolls are coming up next week!

PRESSED BOARD DOLLS - PART ONE

PRESSED BOARD DOLLS - PART ONE.
Pressed Board Dolls was the actual title on this set from the 1940's. It indicated that the dolls were printed on heavier cardboard than usual although hardly a catchy title for marketing purposes. These scans were from a heavily yellowed paper which I have tried to lighten and whiten up as best as was possible. It is also a big four doll set so I'll post the other two dolls and their clothes tomorrow.

HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN

Hollywood Canteen Background Left Side
Hollywood Canteen Background Right Side

HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN.
Founded by actors Bette Davis and John Garfield in 1942 the Hollywood Canteen offered food and entertainment to service men and women who where going overseas to fight in World War II. The activities and the Hollywood stars who manned the Canteen were also featured in a successful film in 1944.
I've included a bi-fold background to pose the dolls in front of that invokes the patriotic spirit of those times.
