PROM TIME

PROM TIME.

This is a beautiful set with nicely rendered gowns although the dolls as depicted seem a bit old for the Prom. I like that the dolls are named and the clothing tabs are initialed to identify which dress goes with which doll. So many sets are not and it can be confusing especially if the body poses are similar.

JANE & MICHAEL - MARY POPPINS

JANE & MICHAEL - MARY POPPINS.

Although titled "Jane & Michael" this set from 1965 features Mary Poppins herself prominently with an interesting walking pose and fairly accurate depictions of the actual costumes from the Disney film. Only Bert is missing although he was included in another set which I posted last year.

MARY PICKFORD & DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS MOVY-DOLS

MARY PICKFORD & DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS MOVY-DOLS.

I don't have much info about these "Movy-Dols" as they were labeled. Pickford & Fairbanks were of course the King & Queen of Hollywood in the 1920's, as big or bigger than any stars of today.

The dolls themselves are rather odd with only one costume each made to fit over them. The others simply have a separate head to insert.

SNOW WHITE BROCADE

SNOW WHITE BROCADE.

There were a lot of Snow White sets produced. I've posted several here myself  but this one is the most bizarre. While the dolls are straightforward enough the heavily brocaded designs of the outfits are just strange and must have seemed so even back when it came out.

DELL DOLLS

DELL DOLLS.

A rather unimaginative title for this set, Dell being the publisher. I guess they ran out of "Teen" titles and just went with the obvious. Still a nicely drawn quartet of dolls through the clothes are pretty plain.

I have added the identifying letters on the tabs as the originals were unmarked which led to some confusion as to which fitted what doll.

CATHY AND HER COSTUMES

CATHY AND HER COSTUMES.

This is a precious French doll with some beautifully detailed "costumes". The original had an ugly slit in the hair to insert the headdresses into but I have removed that in favor of tabs which I have added.
